3 Freezer Meals I Prep Ahead for Postpartum Nourishment

Hello Momma,

Postpartum is not the time to wonder what to eat. It is a season that asks for warmth, simplicity, and nourishment that feels gentle on the body and nervous system. One of the most supportive things I do during pregnancy for my momma clients is prepare freezer meals that can be cooked later with almost no effort.

These are my three favorite postpartum nourishment freezer meals. All three are warm soups or stews, made ahead in ziplock bags, frozen flat, and cooked later by simply adding broth and simmering. I adapted each recipe from an original version and made intentional changes to support digestion, recovery, and ease in the early weeks after birth.

Below you will find my freezer prep versions, how I cook them later, and links to the original recipes if you want to reference the source. Hopefully in the next few days/weeks i WILL HAVE A FULL YOUTUBE VIDEO ON PREPPING THESE MEALS - HOPE YOU GIVE ME A FOLLOW!

Why Freezer Soups and Stews Are Ideal Postpartum 🥘

Across many cultures, postpartum food centers around warm, brothy meals. These types of foods are supportive because they are:

• Easy to digest

• Hydrating and mineral rich

• Gentle when appetite is low

• Simple for others to prepare for you

• Comforting during hormonal shifts

Freezer meals like these reduce decision fatigue and ensure you are eating real food even on the hardest days.

1. Greek Lemon Chickpea Orzo Soup

Vegan | Bright | Comforting

Ingredients for the Freezer Bag

• 3 cans chickpeas (drain and rinse 2, leave 1 with liquid)

• 2 medium carrots, sliced

• 2 stalks celery, chopped

• 1 teaspoon Herbs de Provence (instead of oregano)

• ½ teaspoon salt + 1 tsp garlic powder

• ½ teaspoon black pepper

• ¼ cup fresh dill, chopped

• ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped

• Lemon zest and lemon juice

• 2 cups kale, chopped

What I changed

• I use gluten free orzo and do not freeze it

• I add the orzo later when cooking so it does not get mushy

• Herbs de Provence instead of oregano for a softer, more grounding flavor

How to Cook After Freezing 🥘

Add freezer bag contents to a pot with 6 cups vegetable broth. Simmer until vegetables are tender. Add gluten free orzo and cook according to package instructions. Adjust salt and lemon to taste.

• 2 medium Purple sweet potato, chopped

• 2 tablespoon Sweet potato purée

• 1/4 cup Mushrooms, sliced

• 1 tablespoon Garlic, minced

• Rosemary, thyme, and sage

• Sweet potato purée instead of pumpkin

• Added purple sweet potato

How to Cook After Freezing 🥘

Add freezer bag contents to a pot or slow cooker with 5 cups beef bone broth. Simmer low and slow until meat is tender. Add frozen kale near the end of cooking.

How I Store These Meals

• Freeze flat in large ziplock bags

• Label with recipe name and date

• Store up to 3 months

• Stack vertically to save space

These meals are easy for a partner, friend, or postpartum support person to cook without instructions. Postpartum nourishment does not need to be complicated. These freezer meals are warm, grounding, and designed to support healing during a tender season. Preparing them ahead of time is a gift to your future self.

Wishing you all the healing!
