Creating a Postpartum Recovery Outdoor Space with The Porch Swing Company
getting outside during postpartum for some fresh air and perspective 🦋🪻
There is something really blissful that happens when mommas prepare for more outdoor time during postpartum. There are little guarantees how postpartum will flow for you but what you can prepare for is some fresh air and sunshine. I have seen, as a postpartum doula, that being indoors for too many hours per day while being hyper focused on a little one, can become very intense and all perspective can be lost. While there is a place for recovery indoors, you can easily move these activities of rest and nurturing outdoors. And the bonus of sunshine for you and baby contains so many benefits. Getting out of those four walls does something pretty special for momma and baby ⬇️
🪻fresh air to activate calm in the heart and body
🦋perspective that the planet is still bigger than the next upcoming frustrating feeding
🪴hearing the birds sing to help lower feelings of anxiety like a melody to soothe a overstimulated mind
🌷sunshine to support momma and baby’s need for vitamin D ☀️
🤱🏼bonus: place a comfortable rocking chair on your porch for long snuggling sessions 🥹
Have you wondered how you can create a healing space outdoors? Check out my tips and the links to the items that I love the most to create this little outdoor cocoon ⬇️
🪻choose a space that is quiet and gets indirect sunlight with some direct sunlight too: if you don’t have this specific space, you can always ask a neighbor, friend or family member to use theirs for a few hours a day.
🦋make it really cozy: adding a few new things like a woven outdoor rug, cotton pillows and a linen throw blanket that calls you to rest and recover
🪴add some easy maintenance florals or herbs: I love leaning into easy maintenance plants for mommas to watch grow as their little ones grows along.
🌷splurge on the comfortable chairs, ideally rocking chairs: soothing a fussy baby is so much more manageable and truly comforting for mommas too. I love shifting a postpartum routine of night time porch soothing to a family tradition of after dinner rocking and chatting moments once postpartum has ended.
🤱🏼view your outdoor space as an extension of your indoor space: live in a tiny home like we do? We simply use our outdoor space as an extension of our home. We added a few rugs for barefoot lounging, lounge chair for naps and a few umbrellas to keep us out of the heat. 🥹
I created this beautiful healing space with the lovely The Porch Swing Company 💗 I am honored to share their gorgeous high quality handmade outdoor furniture like these Keystone Amish Co. Eden Red Cedar Rocking Chairs. 🪑
It has been a very blissful time to create this outdoor space for the growth of our own family. I found connecting with The Porch Swing Company from start to finish was so special. While our own porch overhang was a little short to house a porch swing, we decided our daydream still needed to come to life with these gorgeous wooden rocking chairs. We simply placed our order in the beginning of the month and they arrived nothing over 10 days later after being handcrafted by their skilled wood workers. What we were looking in rocking chairs included: materials that would last a very long time and easy to assemble. I really love that these rocking chairs are crafted from premium Western Red Cedar in this Adirondack-inspired style that combines expert craftsmanship and exceptional comfort. I selected to not have cup holders crafted in our rocking chairs since we are more of a mug of coffee on the arm of the chair kind of people but easily can see how that addition would be brilliant with little ones! All of their beautiful chairs are finished with a soy-based stain, made in the USA the most simple to assemble. I really love looking at how much work and skill was put into these chairs and that has deepen my appreciation for this space.

What I have actually experienced sitting in these chairs was how cozy they are for being wood. Often times outdoor chairs can feel very cold and uncomfortable, but I can say as I type these very words, these are by far our favorite chairs including our indoor ones too. We built them inside on a cold night, and I might have left them inside for a few hours to enjoy rocking while reading a book. :)
To make the experience even more cozy with our rocking chairs, we added a few of the following pieces to our outdoor space ⬇️
🪻my favorite sheepskins from Wild Oaks Apothecary - use my coupon code MeganL10
🦋the coziest cotton pillow covers to easily wash if baby spits up or you spill your postpartum tea
🪴my favorite linen throw for windy days that you just need to get outside
🌷the side table of all side tables that makes pumping outside a breeze
🤱🏼the coziest little light to brighten late night snuggles - it easily recharges too!
I hope you are able to create the coziest postpartum space outdoors as you experience fresh air, sunshine and blissful soothing from a pair of rocking chairs. Thank you to The Porch Swing Company for Sponsoring this beautiful collaboration!
Wishing you all the best as you heal, nourish and cocoon!
